DO‘S AND DON’TS FOR GIFT GIVING IN THE OFFICE

We searched high and low to find out the proper etiquette on gift giving in the office. Here are some Do’s and Don’ts on gift giving in the office this holiday season. Happy Giving!

Do‘s and Don’ts for Gift giving in the office:

Do’s:

• First understand the company policy on gift-giving. The larger the company, the more likely a specific policy.

• Examine the company’s corporate culture for the types of gifts that might be acceptable.

• Rule of thumb: the more relaxed the corporate culture, the wider latitude you have in gift choices and use your common sense and good judgment when making gift choices.

• stay within your (and the office) budget for the gifts

• Spend time and effort to choose thoughtful gifts for each on your office list. And it’s best to stick to people’s hobbies or favorite activities when thinking of gifts.

• Consider gifts that can be shared (with co-workers or family members), such as gourmet food items — especially those in festive tins or boxes or one of the 7 items we’ve found to be a hit this season.

• Wrap your gift and do consider adding something extra to make the gift even more special, such as a gift of book with a really distinctive book mark.

Don’ts:

• Don’t get a gift for anyone in the office for the sake of making a statement; give gifts to show your appreciation and thanks to the people who helped you the most in the past year. And don’t ever get something for the boss just to show up your co-workers. (You don’t want to be seen as a suck-up or brown-nosier.)

• Don’t assume the people in your office share your tastes.

• Don’t even think of gag or other inappropriate gifts.

• Don’t give items that are too personal, religious, racial, or sexual. Clothing (especially lingerie), perfume/cologne, handmade, re-gifted, and alcoholic items are also don’ts.

• Don’t give gifts to co-workers in front of others. Instead, consider having a holiday lunch or high tea and exchanging gifts outside the office. If you can’t get out of the office, exchange presents discretely (and perhaps after hours).

• Don’t pass up a chance to partake in a “Secret Santa” if the whole office is doing so, but remember to stick with all the rules

• Don’t wait until the last minute to shop for your co-workers. This is why we have found 7 of the HOTTEST items to get this year for your office list.

CONNECTING WITH THE EXPERTS – WEBSITES

There are a variety of areas to marketing. Some areas aren’t given as much attention as others but that is where our experts come in to help. Over the next 7 weeks we will talk to our experts and hear from our President Shanna Vollmer on those areas to help keep you up to date.

Did you realize that only 75.2% of businesses have a website?According to recent article on staticbrain.com.  We took a minute to talk to our team expert Ryan Phillips, web designer and developer, to discuss the number one mistake that most businesses make regarding their websites and why websites are important in this day in age.

Business Website Statistics Number Percent
Number of businesses surveyed 14,441,089
Business had a website 3,580,247 24.8 %
Business did not have a website 10,860,842 75.2 %

Male Owned Businesses
Business had a website 1,784,806 24.3 %
Business did not have a website 5,571,459 75.7 %
Co Male-Female Owned Businesses
Business had a website 666,330 25.2 %
Business did not have a website 1,982,767 74.8 %

I would say the number 1 thing companies’ fail at in regards to their website is making sure their websites are current and fresh. By current, I mean not using outdated code and/or design trends. And by fresh, I mean keeping the content fresh by uploading new photos, text, videos, blog posts, etc.

Not only will doing both of these things keep your website visitors engaged and more informed, but it will help with search engine results as well.

And this spills over to social media since social media is somewhat an extension of your website. Keeping social media fresh and engaging with your audience can have the same impact as keeping your site current and fresh.

Keeping a website fresh and current is one of those things that is very low on most companies’ priority list, but can have a great impact on a company’s brand and search engine rankings”

We encourage all businesses to invest in having a web presence and if you already do our team can help you keep it fresh and relevant. Next week, you will hear from our team expert Sean Lorton, No Box Studios, about how video can change your marketing outcomes.
